Posts are issued every year from the Health Division, and advertised on the Malta Government Gazette, and in the section Employment Opportunities on the Department of Information Website.
The appointee will enter into a structured training programme in the required speciality, as approved by the Specialist Accreditation Committee (SAC), according to the Health Care Professions Act. This training shall be under the direction of the respective Training Coordinator and Postgraduate Training Committee. There shall be continuous assessment and a yearly review of performance. Continued training will depend on satisfactory reports by the co-ordinator of training and the departmental training committee. During his/her contract the Basic Specialist Trainee should be in a position to sit for any examination, or other appropriate comparable qualification as prescribed in the approved training programme.

Application forms, together with a curriculum vitae indicating qualifications and experience, will be received in the first instance by the Assistant Director, Human Resources, Ministry of health, the Elderly and Community Care, 6, Harper Lane, Floriana by not later than noon (Central European Time) on a closing date indicated on the call for applications.
The Postgraduate Training Committee is the individual Speciality Committee which is bound to assess training. It is made of the Training Coordinator/s as Chair of the Committee, the Chairperson of the Clinical Department, The Association Representative and representatives as required according to the meeting if needed.

It is the responsibility of applicants, in possession of qualifications awarded by Maltese or foreign Universities / tertiary education institutions (excluding qualifications awarded by the University of Malta, Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology, Institute of Tourism Studies and Institute for Conservation and Management of Cultural Heritage), to produce a recognition statement on comparability of qualifications issued by the Malta Qualifications Recognition Information Centre (MQRIC) within the Ministry of Education, Employment and the Family or the designated authority, as applicable, which statement should be attached to the application and the original presented at the interview. Candidates not in possession of this statement may still apply, provided that they submit a copy of the statement, issued by the pertinent authority, to the receiving department as soon as available and, in any case, by not later than one month from the closing date of the call for applications.
