The Malta Postgraduate Medical Training Centre (MPMTC), established in 2008, offers training and support for postgraduate medical trainees in the Foundation and Specialty Training Programmes. It provides a comprehensive two-year clinical training programme for new doctors via the Foundation Programme, preparing them to apply for over thirty specialty training programmes.
The MPMTC supports and coordinates the work of Specialty Training Coordinators who chair their specialty training committees responsible for training programme implementation, supports trainee progression, and recommends trainees to the Specialist Accreditation Committee for certification for specialist training completion. It also offers an electronic portfolio for tracking trainee progress, procures simulation equipment, and support for trainees and trainers. Additionally, MPMTC organizes international training initiatives to enhance local training experiences at Higher Specialist Training or post-specialist level.

The MPMTC coordinates, supports and oversees the implementation of the Foundation Programme and Speciality Training Programmes through the Foundation School Directors and Speciality Training Coordinators, and its provision of support services including e-portfolio management, simulation training, and training support service.
